Newsletter for September 22, 2017

Wow…welcome to fall?! Can not believe the warm weather we are experiencing right now. We are doing the best we can to stay cool but it is difficult. Please remember to have your child take in a water bottle and to dress for hot weather. Thanks to Mrs. Katsma for providing us with popsicles today during recess. It was a great way to get cool!

A couple of things I wanted to remind you about or bring to your attention. First, we spend some time on the computer everyday doing math and reading activities. While working, we often need to listen to instructions from the computer. It would help greatly if your child had a set of earbuds to keep at school for the year to use while we work on the computer.

Second, we have several allergies in our room that I wanted you to know about when it comes time to bring in a birthday or party treat. We have a peanut allergy, a red dye allergy, and a gluten allergy. Thanks for keeping this in mind when picking out treats for our class.

Lastly, it is spirt week next week to celebrate homecoming. Here is the list of themes for each day.

Monday- crazy hair day

Tuesday – 80’s day

Wednesday – sports day

Thursday – pj day

Friday – Eagle pride day

Welcome back everyone! Can’t believe we are at the end of our second week of school already! I hope everyone had a great, restful summer vacation and are ready for an exciting year in third grade. I am so excited to have your children in my room and we have been busy learning our schedules and routines these past two weeks.

Usually I attach a newsletter to my blog posts, but since it is the beginning of the school year, we have been working on expectations and not so much content. We have started math and that means multiplication. I have sent a flyer home with your child earlier this week on how to connect to XtraMath. It is a great resource to use to get your child practicing the math facts. Let me know if you need another flyer sent home. Spelling is another subject we have started and we took our first test today. The spelling schedule will be a list coming home on Monday and the weekly test on Friday.

We have celebrated 4 birthdays in our classroom already this year. Just some information for those birthday treats. We have 26 students, a peanut allergy and a red dye allergy. Please keep that in mind when deciding what treat to have your child bring in. Do not feel your child has to bring a birthday treat – we will celebrate them either way!

Some upcoming dates this week: picture day on September 13, early release on September 15 (students are dismissed at 12:15).

Our special schedule for next week: music, art, steam, gym, music

Library books due back on Tuesday.

Have a great weekend!
